Members are given the opportunity to achieve Diplomate status with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress or with the National Center for Crisis Management. The Diplomate distinction is a prestigious credential awarded to members that recognizes their experience in working with survivors of traumatic events and/or crisis management, knowledge, training and level of education.

The application can be completed online or can be downloaded to submit by mail by clicking here.

To achieve this credential, members must complete the Application for Diplomate and submit supporting documentation that validates their knowledge, experience, training and education in working with survivors of traumatic events and/or crisis management. In order for the Academy to consider your application, you must complete the five sections of  application below including:

All certifications and Diplomate and Fellowship credentials obtained by members are recognized by both the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and National Center for Crisis Management . The applicant’s official Academy records, online profile and certificate indicate this dual recognition. All awarded certifications are included in the member’s profile in the Professional Directory of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress available online through a searchable database at www.AAETS.org and www.NC-CM.org.

III. SPECIALTY AREA CERTIFICATION

The Diplomate status is recognized by both the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and the National Center for Crisis Management.  However, applicants have the option of  choosing which organization awards the Diplomate status.  The organization awarding the Diplomate  will be reflected on the Diplomate certificate, in the applicant’s central  records and online.  Please indicate  which organization you are applying for Diplomate status.

Candidates must achieve or exceed a total score of 200 points by completing this credentialing section. Applicants need to complete the Education, Certification and Licensure, Knowledge and Training and Experience sections. The point value for each item is to its right.

Applicants who fail to demonstrate that they have met the requisite criteria for certification in the specialty area will be informed as to the reason for denial. The candidate will be given a second opportunity to provide additional supportive documentation.
