The
Academy's mission is to increase awareness of
the effects of traumatic events and, ultimately,
to improve the quality of intervention with
survivors.The International Registry of The
American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress
is the Academy’s official membership directory
and referral network. Membership with the association
demonstrates a commitment to the advancement
of intervention for survivors of trauma. Board
Certification and the Diplomate Credential identifies
expertise among professionals, across disciplines,
and provides a standard for those who regularly
work with survivors of traumatic events. This
designation is awarded to individuals who demonstrate
genuine expertise in the field by virtue of
their extensive knowledge, experience and education.
Fellowship is the highest honor the Academy
can bestow upon a member. Fellowship is awarded
to Credentialed Experts who have made significant
contributions to the field or to the Academy.
The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic
Stress does not practice medicine or psychology
or provide direct or indirect patient/client
care. Furthermore, Board Certification, the
Diplomate Credential and Fellowship do not attest
to a professional’s ability to treat survivors
of traumatic events.
